In 1968, Hamilton introduced the Chronograph A, followed a year later by the Caliber 11-powered Chrono-matic. Both chronographs served as the inspiration for the Intra-Matic Auto Chrono.
This modern Hamilton Inta-Matic Auto Chrono has been praised by the Fratello authors a number of times (click here and click here). Ever since its introduction in 2018 (the larger 42mm version was introduced a year earlier), we’ve been a fan of these chronographs. That’s why we decided to include them in our Fratello Shop for you. This is a vintage-inspired chronograph that will not disappoint, with its 40mm diameter case and self-winding caliber H-31 movement. A chronograph that can easily become your daily companion for many years to come.
The main attraction here might well be the Panda dial, but the bicompax layout is a masterstroke of design as well. As our author, Jorg, puts it, “First off, the placement and size of the sub-registers are perfect. Their size fits the overall dial size, and they are neatly placed in between the 2 and 4 o’clock markers on the right and 8 and 10 o’clock markers on the left side of the dial. As a result, they do not interrupt or intersect any other dial markers. Consequently, the sub-dials look calm in their setting.”
And Jorg ended his review with, “With a list price of €1,995, the Hamilton Intra-Matic Auto Chrono is hard to beat. There aren’t that many chronographs for that kind of money that combine exceptional looks, with a good movement, and the history to make the story of the watch complete.”
The Hamiton Intra-Matic Auto Chrono with its panda dial is a stunner. There are a lot of details that combine to make this Intra-Matic Auto Chrono one of Hamilton’s best selling watches.
