50th Anniversary Enamel Dial

In 2007, the Omega Speedmaster celebrated its 50th anniversary. From the first model with reference CK2915 till the Moonwatch in the year of the 50th anniversary, there had been many iterations, but Omega ensured the iconic characteristics remained. The model we offer to you here is – to us – an interesting one. Let us explain why.

An under-the-radar classic

Limited to 1957 pieces, but a model that has been quite under the radar. Undeservedly so, as it combines a number of interesting features for a classic like the Moonwatch. Besides the Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch that was limited to 5957 pieces, Omega also introduced this special 50th anniversary in a much lower quantity. What appears to be another Moonwatch, is actually quite different than the standard Speedmaster Professional. For starters, the dial is made of enamel. It results in this deep black, almost onyx like, color. The unique limited edition number of the watch is printed in white on the dial.

Hand-wound caliber 3201

For most Speedmaster enthusiasts, the most important feature of this Speedmaster 50th anniversary 311.33.42.50.01.001 is on the backside of the watch. Through the sapphire crystal, you will see the hand-wound caliber 3201 movement. This movement, F. Piguet base, is a column-wheel chronograph and a Co-Axial escapement. This chronograph movement is also chronometer-certified and has a 52 hours power reserve.

A complete package

Almost as impressive is the wooden box that this watch is delivered in. A huge and heavy box, with the Speedmaster logo and Seahorse in wood on top of the box. The box has two compartments, one with the watch that can be lifted out. And the lower compartment that holds watchmaking tools, a loupe, and the additional alligator leather strap with folding clasp. Below the wooden case, there is some space between the bottom and the dark cardboard box that holds some extras. Here, you will find the Certificate of Authenticity, a manual that explains what all the tools are for and a special booklet on the Speedmaster. Then, there’s a polishing cloth and a leather cardholder, containing the International Warranty Card, the Chronometer certificate card and the pictograms card. There’s also the Omega Co-Axial 3-year warranty tag and the famous red Omega instruction book.

“The watch is perhaps best described as the luxury version of the standard Moonwatch (with sapphire). Although when worn on the wrist, nobody except you and a few Speedmaster fans will probably notice — true stealth luxury.” – Robert-Jan Broer

Condition

When buying pre-owned, the condition is key. That’s what we fully understand here at Fratello, as we are collectors ourselves for many years (decades). This watch is as complete as it gets, and has never been worn or used except to take images. We carefully removed the stickers from the case back to take an image of the movement but put them back right after we were done. Everything that should come with this watch is there, and it is in absolute mint condition. To be honest, we rather not sell this watch, but keep it forever. This watch was originally sold in September 2007, but has been safely stored by its first owner.
